International Student Programs: Academics
Sias understands that students have countless choices in higher education across the world. However, Sias is confident that it offers a rare opportunity in central China where students can take advantage of the Chinese traditional culture and the broad variety of academic programs. The hybrid American-Chinese model Sias has developed attracts students worldwide who are looking for the benefits of experiencing Chinese culture while receiving American education with affordable tuition and living costs.
Sias offers three different types of academic programs tailored to meet the needs of today's students living and competing in a global environment. These are: the Chinese Studies Certificate Programs for international students, American Bachelor Degree Programs for both native Chinese speaking students and international students who speak English, and Chinese Degree Programs for native Chinese speaking students.
Each path of study has its own prerequisites, core courses, and graduation requirements presented in the following pages. To achieve a Fort Hays State University bachelor's degree, students must complete or transfer (limitations apply) 124 credit hours across specified disciplines. This is a standard four-year program. Sias Chinese Studies Certificate Programs are designed as one- to three-year programs with customizable courses as well as length of study to meet your level and needs. Chinese degrees awarded by Sias under China's State Degree Office are for native Chinese speakers looking for a Chinese higher education degree.
No matter what your educational needs are, Sias University can help you achieve your goals!

Chinese Studies Certificate Programs
The Chinese Studies Certificate Programs are for international students. These programs provide a "language first" educational experience for those seeking to expand their knowledge of ancient and contemporary China in the fields of language, humanities, arts, and even traditional medicine. From a single semester to multi-year programs, students can choose a specialization from three available program tracks. All three tracks emphasize Chinese language acquisition while each complements their studies with specialized courses of choice.
Students have three Certificate tracks to choose from: Language, History and Culture, or Traditional Arts. The Language Certificate is comprised of 72 hours of language study over four semesters. The History and Culture track includes 18 hours of specialized courses on top of 56 hours of language study to make 74 credit hours of study for four semesters. The Traditional Arts program consists of 18 hours of arts courses and 56 hours of Chinese language courses to be covered in four semesters.
Alternatively, students can create their own program from the core courses Sias offers or even model their track around their home institution's needs. Field trips throughout China are also an integral part of the programs so that upon completion a student will have experienced every day. China in addition to gaining a diverse understanding of Chinese history, society, and culture. Regardless of your current Chinese language level or study objectives in China, Sias will help you maximize your experience here and prepare you for a global profession.
The credit hours earned from the Chinese Studies Certificate Programs are transferable to the students' home educational institutions. (Students are recommended to check with their home university for credit equivalency.)
The Chinese language courses in the Chinese Studies Certificate Programs can also help the students to pass the national HSK* Chinese language level exams. (Additional HSK exam preparation courses are also offered independently.)
The HSK is the official Chinese language Proficiency Exam for non-native Chinese speakers. There are three levels of the HSK, and successful passage is used for verifying your professional Chinese language abilities in China.
