Student Life---The Heart of College Experience
International student housing lies at the center of campus, overlooking European Street. In their own building, international students can enjoy the privacy of their own apartments while having direct access to and being completely immersed in the hub of campus life. European Street is lines with shops, stores, cafes, and entertainment settings. From eyeglasses to mp3 players, from playing pool to getting a late night snack, the convenience of European Street puts our international housing in the best place on campus.
Each apartment/flat consists of a living area, western bathroom and bedroom. An apartment/A flat is generally shared by two students. Living arrangements include basic furnishings: chairs, desks, desk lamps, a couch, bed, bedside tables, dressers, and television. All rooms are air conditioned and heated and are equipped with high speed internet access and telephone. The international dining hall is a short walk from European Street; it serves both Chinese and western dishes 3 times a day. Sias also runs a guest hotel with western restaurant downstairs.
Extracurricular Activities
Sias campus is the first of its kind in China, designed by American noted Architect Peter Weiss. Sias campus depicts features of western culture in European Street, at Roman amphitheatre and the US Capitol facade on the administration building, complementing the traditional Asian rock gardens and a half-century-old pavilion. The campus encompasses about 360 acres, 200 of which is already fully developed with its primary classroom buildings laid out around the central fountains and open green spaces. Athletic facilities like tennis and basketball courts surround the campus along with the new swimming pool and gym facilities.
Our international students have many opportunities to be involved in campus activities and pursue their extracurricular interests. Students can choose from over 70 social clubs and activities like the environmental club, martial arts, cultural studies, or even the orienteering group. Other international Interest Groups hosted in English offer good opportunities for international students to get involved at a leadership level as well, bringing their culture and expertise to campus. Intramurals and campus-wide sports are always going on. Siass main Fall event International Culture Week, is another chance for students to be involved. It is an opportunity to share their talents and cultural heritage as the Sias campus transforms into various countries and regions to bring more international exposure to the Chinese students.
Field Trips
International students have the unique opportunity to join our international faculty on many cultural and historic trips throughout the year.
