Sias becomes a member school of the IAUP [2010-03-04]
Before we have all recovered from the happiness of Chinese New Year, a piece of good news came from the International Association of Universities Presidents (IAUP), Sias International University became a new member school of the IAUP. After ICED’s hard work, IUAP investigated Sias carefully and finally accepted Sias as one of its new member schools. This acceptance broadens Sias’s communication and cooperation in the worldwide arena.
The International Association of University Presidents (IAUP) is an association of university chief executives from higher education institutions around the world. IAUP is a NGO (Non Governmental Organization) with formal consultation rights with UNESCO. The primary purpose is to strengthen the international mission and quality of education of these institutions in an increasingly interdependent world, and to promote global awareness and competence as well as peace and international understanding through education. It is a unique worldwide platform that facilitates the exchange of professional experience through conferences, seminars, publications, and commissions. (By ICED)
Dr. Shawn Chen attended the 27th AUAP board meeting [2009-12-11]
December 7th -9th, Dr. Shawn Chen and Prof. Fang Wenchang , director of ICED, attended the 27th board meeting of the Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP). Dr. Shawn Chen was elected the executive board member of Chinese area of AUAP and gave a speech about Sias International University during the meeting. After that, Dr. Shawn Chen and Prof. Fang Wenchang had a bilateral talk with the other universities. This meeting promotes Sias in Southeast Asia and helps the international cooperation in the future. (By ICED)
Guests from Indonesia visited Sias [2009-11-23]
Vice rector Dr.Sri Indriyati, vice rector Dr.Reschiwati, Vice coordinator for managerial assessment Dr. Swati and vice coordinator. Dr. Sondang ,a four-person delegation from Persada university , Jakarta Indonesia came to visit sias from 18—20 this month.
During their visit, the chairman and founder of Sias, Dr. Shawn Chen and president Prof. Li Haijun met with the delegation and had a detailed discussion concerning the exchange programs between the two university in various fields respectively.
In the afternoon of 18, President Li and vice rector Dr. Sri indriyati represented each side and signed the cooperative MOU between the two universities, thus, an official cooperative relations have been established since.
As per the MOU, student and faculty exchange will start pretty soon early next year.In the afternoon of 19, vice coordinator Dr. Swati lectured for students and faculties on Asian people’s culture and motivation.
Thus , sias has opened a new window in southeast Asian countries in the field of international exchange and cooperation.
A Visit from the Governor of Kansas [2009-11-12]
On the morning of November 11th, the governor of Kansas, Mr. Mark Parkinson escorted by Sias Founder Dr. Shawn Chen and the Vice Governor of Henan, Mr. Xu Jichao came to Sias to visit and give a lecture to the students of Sias. Goveror Parkinson came to Henan to attend the Midwest Sino-American Cooperation Forum. Because of Sias’ unique model of education and partnership with Fort Hays State University, in Ft Hays, Kansas, Governor Parkinson had a special interest in Sias.
In his lecture, Governor Parkinson spoke optimistically about the future of the world. His main points were that we are living in the best of times in all of history. Because of the advancements in technology and medicine, people living today have much longer lives with a higher quality of living. He believes that in order to make sure the future continues to improve the governments and people of the world must make large investments in education. Because today’s students are the future leaders of the world, we must invest in them. Despite the economic pressures faced in the world today, to prove his commitment to investment in education, Governor Parkinson promised to double the number from 40 to 80 students that will be welcomed from Sias to study at Fort Hays with a reduced tuition. He ended his speech by answering questions from the students and encouraging the growth of Sias and Henan, and encouraging continued cooperation between Henan and Kansas.(By ICED)
Siam University and the secretary general of AUAP visited Sias [2009-11-12]
November 3rd -7th ,Dr. Umaly, secretary general of AUAP, Dr. Usanee, Director of International Relations of Siam university of Thailand and Dr. Aguada, president of Magister English Training Center of Philippines visited Sias University and attended the 11th Sias International Culture Week.
November 4th, Hosted by Dr. Shawn Chen, the Foreign Language School, Nursing School, International Education School, Academic Affairs Department and ICED had a talk about the cooperation with the guests. Later Dr. Shawn Chen, President Li Haijun and Vice President Wu Tiejun met the guests and held a banquet to welcome the guests. During their visit, the guests joined in the International Culture Week and highly praised it.
November 7th, Dr. Shawn Chen awarded Dr. Umaly and Dr. Usanee the title of Honorary Professor and engaged Dr. Umaly as the Honorary Dean of the Nursing School. The Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific(AUAP) is a non-government association registered under UNESCO. It has more than 250 member universities. Dr. Shawn Chen was elected as the executive board member of the Chinese area of AUAP. And Sias University is now a member university of AUAP.（By ICED）
