Dr. Shawn Chen attent the 15th anniversary of AUAP [2010-08-05]
Invited by AUAP, Dr. Shawn Chen went to Thailand to attend the 15th anniversary of AUAP along with Prof. Fang Wenchang and Mr. Yue Junliang. On the 28th Board meeting, Dr. Chen gave a lot of constructive ideas about the next development of AUAP, many represents gave highly agreement of his idea. The group scheduled to gather in Sias in September to talk about the next step. On 29th, the princess of the Kingdom of Thailand set a banquet to weclome all the represents. On 30th, Dr. Chen visited Siam University, Sister school of Sias University, to talk about the cooperation programs in detail. August 1st, Dr. Chen finished this visit successfully and went back to Sias. (By ICED)
Sias Holds the Commencement 2010 [2010-06-08]
The day of May 30 witnessed the graduation of 4600 Sias students. It was a time for them to look back and move ahead.
School leaders and guests from both home and abroad attended the grand ceremony. The guests included Prof. Chang Junbiao, vice president of Zhengzhou University, Dr. Edward Hammond, president of Fort Hays State University, Ms. Jerrie Ueberle, president of Sias Foundation, Dr. Ruben Umaly, secretary general of AUAP( Association of Universities of Asia and the Pacific), Ms. Hou Hong, vice secretary of Henan Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League of China. School faculty and students’ parents also participated in the ceremony.
The commencement began at 9:30 with thousands of Sias graduates in baccalaureate gowns marching into the stadium. President Li Haijun hosted it and Dr. Shawn Chen introduced the guests. In his speech, Dr. Shawn Chen encouraged the graduates to make unremitting efforts to improve themselves so as to fulfill themselves and contribute to the development of the society. It was followed by the speeches delivered respectively by Prof. Chang Junbiao, Dr. Edward Hammond, Dr. Alan Brown, vice president of Sias Foundation, Dr. Ruben Umaly, Ms. Hou Hong, Zang Kaiwen, teacher representative and Chao Xiaoqian, granduate representative.
After the speeches, a variety of prizes to the graduates were awarded by school leaders of Sias and president of Fort Hays State University.
The last announcement of the graduation made the stadium filled with applause and cheers.
After the commencement, the graduates took out their cameras to record the unforgettable moment. They knew that from now on, they were going to embark on new lives and strive for new achievements. （By ICED）
Communication and Cooperation Achieve Dreams Home and School Create Splendors [2010-06-08]

Communication is in a bridge of trust and understanding, in the sunny Mayday, Chinese and foreign guests, alumni, parents, sias teachers and students meet in the bridge joyfully to review the past and look into the future . The bridge is---Home-coming day.
At 8 o’clock in the morning on May 29th, parents and guests which were warmly welcomed by students got into the campus happily. Disc drum performances, Marching Band performances and Cheerleaders’ passionate performances created a delighted atmosphere . Painting and calligraphy exhibition of the students, building model exihibition of the Academy of Fine Arts all added highlights of Sias campus .
At 9 o’clock in the morning , a grand celebration of Home-coming day and the openning ceremony of Sias 10th anniversary of international cooperative education with FHSU held at Sias opera house . Asia-Pacific University Association delegation, Women symposium delegation,FHSU delegation , the Secretary-General of the China International Friendship Association Chen Zuming ,the writer of 《Flying over the Pacific:focus on the Sino-American joint eduacation of Sias》Tan shufang, Breda Institute of Technology Delegation,parents, alumni,school leaders and thousands of students attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by the president Li Haijun.
Doctor Shawn Chen introduced the chinese and foreign guests and dilivered a speech.He said ,our school has formed distinctive characteristics ,achieved leapfrog development and focused on nurturing graduates who have independence and responsibilities to be the world citizens. He believes that families and schools are the two most important educators.The implement of "four-dimensional interactive educational management” makes more and more parents get involved in school management, and promote mutual understanding.Subsequently, the president of Asia-Pacific University Association doctor Kaman.lamona, the Secretary-General of the China International Friendship Association Chen Zuming and the president of SIAS foundation Gery.youbly all delivered a speech .They all affirmed the achievements of Sias and gave our students high expectations . The former President of SIAS Foundation board Judith • Wydler and Doctor Shawn Chen announced a notice together : SIAS’s students are very excellent, Foundation Board will use more scholarships to help students and give great thank to all the people that have helped SIAS . Then, President Li Haijun on behalf of SIAS signed a friendship agreement with Hanoi Vietnam Agricultural University,Muhammad Mo Diya Indonesia University, the University of the Philippines. After the opening ceremony, a grand theatrical performance began with the Marching band’s sonorous drums.
During the Home-coming day,the show of a variety of student activities openned a window which gave a comprehensive understanding of students’ life and study to parents.There was a fun-filled Birdman Competition which held along the school lake.At the competition,students’ used their creativity to create unique apperences. Some of them head "Greenhouse", some riding "donkey" and even "Avatar" from the planet Pandora to the scene. With the passion and courage, competitors one after another flew into the water.In Kennedy,our school held a debat about Shanghai World Expo cultural and economic values with Sheng Da Universities’ students. The Players’ in-depth analysis and insights won thunderous applauses from the audience.
At the same time ,vice president of SIAS foreign language school Gia Li, vice president of Hen Nan Business Administration College Wang Xingyu, perfessor of Massachusetts Institute of Technology university, President of Massachusetts Lowell Department of Computer Science Wang Jie, Doctor of New York University Experimental psychology , the leader of SIAS Applied Knowledge Science insitute Yan Ningyuan gave us follow lectures: “To be a successful English learner”, “Supply for Chain of Risk Management”, “Feel the top U.S. education", “Learning and success in life”.The students benefited a lot from these lectures.
In addition,on the Home-coming day,the ommission of Home-coming also conducted a general election to elect a new chairman.School leaders took a face to face communication and communicated further development of the univesity .In the meeting of alumni met with students,the alumni shared life experiences which they got in society.
Different from the former Home-coming day, we held a special SIAS foundation barbecue celebration and alumni dancing party in order to celebrate SIAS foundation tenth anniversary.The Foundation Board member , Chinese and foreign guests, alumni gathered together happily and immenced in this memorable moment .
At 9o’clock in the evening ,a one-day Home-coming ended up with wonderful performances. Parents and guests seems had something more to say at the end of the day. One of the parents Chaili Min said in an interview: “Home-coming day is right in the parental wishes.This not only let parents participate in school management,but also expressed SIAS’s sincerity. Thanks to all the effort that SIAS did !”
On the occasion of a comprehensive summary of experience in education and the first evaluation of Foreign Cooperative education by the ministry of education ,the 2010’s Home-coming day infused SIAS with new passion. Doctor Shawn Chen expressed that as a traditional school activitie, Home-coming day promoted the communication between school and parents, advanced the society’s understanding to SIAS and also gave SIAS a chance to show its achievements. Chinese and Foreign Guests Gathering at Sias Discussing the Cooperation and Development of Education Together [2010-06-08]
-----“Education Development Forum on Sino-Foreign Cooperation in Running School & 11th AUAP Learning and Sharing Forum” successfully held at Sias
Against the backdrop of economic globalization and knowledge-based economy, especially the "Sino-Foreign Cooperation in Running School" has been promulgated. Developing the Sino-Foreign cooperation in running school has become an important direction of China's education in international cooperation and exchange. Sino-Foreign cooperation in running school has played a unique role in the reform and development of China’s education and in bringing up complex international talents needed in China's modernization. In order to strengthen this international exchange and cooperation, and to further promote the healthy development of Sino-Foreign cooperation in running school, Education Development Forum on Sino-Foreign Cooperation in Running School & 11th AUAP Learning and Sharing Forum was held at Sias International University on May 27-28, 2010. The forum was organized by the provincial Education Department and the Association of Universities in Asia-Pacific, and undertaken by Sias International University. With the theme of “Higher Education and International Cooperation”, the forum aimed to strengthen international academic exchanges, to discuss the theory and practice of Foreign Cooperation in Running School, and to inject new vitality and power to the development of cooperation in running school in China.
The forum aroused great support from the Ministry of Education, the provincial government, the provincial Education Department and experts and pioneers of the world cooperation in running school. The presidents of national universities were actively involved in the discussion, and offered great suggestions to the development of cooperation in running school. In addition, the forum also attracted more than 150 university presidents, experts and educators of 9 countries including the United States, Japan, the Philippines and Thailand, who contributed their precious experience to our understanding of Sino-Foreign cooperation in running school. On the eve of the forum, Xu Jichao, the Vice Governor of Henan Province, came to our university and warmly welcomed experts and educators participating in the forum on behalf of the provincial government and the provincial Education Department.
On May 26, we held a banquet for foreign guests in the administration building and invited them to enjoy the performance “Chinese Butterflies”, which was performed by our faculty and students and won the first “Drama Festival” in China. The poignant and moving story, the exquisite melody of music, and the actors’ fantastic performance won the favor of the Chinese and foreign guests.
At 8:30 am. on May 27, the 2-day “Education Development Forum Sino-Foreign Cooperation in Running School & 11th AUAP Learning and Sharing Forum” had a grand opening in the lecture hall of our administration building. The director of International Policies and Regulations division Fang Qingchao, the deputy secretary-general of the provincial government Jie Xin, the deputy director of the provincial Education Department Xiao Xinsheng, the assistant of the provincial government director Rong Xihai, the mayor of Xinzheng City Wang Guangguo, the Rotating Chairman of AUAP Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, the secretary-general Dr. Ruben Umaly, the chairman of Fort Hays Higher Education Committee Richard Hedges, the vice-president of Zhengzhou University Zhang Qianhong, our school leaders Dr. Shawn Chen, Fei Hexiang, Li Haijun, Wu Tiejun, Zhang Xinmin, Xiao Yunlong, delegates from brother universities, delegates from other VIP units attended the opening ceremony. First the chairman of Sias International University Dr. Shawn Chen delivered a welcome speech. He extended a hand to all the leaders, experts, scholars and friends of Sias who attended the forum and sincerely thanked the International Cooperation Department, Degree and Graduate Education Development Center Office of the Ministry of Education, and all the leaders from the Education Department of Henan Province and Foreign & Overseas Chinese Affairs Office who showed great attention and guidance to the forum. Then he gave a brief introduction to the major setting, aims of training students and teaching staff of Sias. Dr. Shawn Chen also called on all the guests to become familiar with Sias and to offer valuable advice in order to make a bridge of communication together. In another speech, Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna stressed that in the current economic situation, internationalization of higher education plays an important role; we should seize the chance and meet the challenge, taking the right strategy, security and action to hold the success in our hands firmly.
At 10:00, a main session forum hosted by Sias president Li Haijun was held in the lecture hall of administration building. Dr. Isa Habibbayli, from Nakhchivan State University in Azerbaijan, delivered a special speech, in which he hoped to gain a better understanding of the international cooperative education model and to promote friendship between the parties through communication.
At 11:20 on May 28, the closing ceremony of the forum was held in the lecture hall of the administration building. Academic Degrees and Graduate Development Center Director Lin Mengquan, the assistant of provincial Education Department Director Rong Xihai, our school leaders Dr. Shawn Chen, Fei Hexiang, Li Haijun, Wu Tiejun, Zhang Xinmin, Xiao Yunlong, delegates from brother universities, delegates from other VIP units attended the closing ceremony. The assistant of provincial Education Department Director Rong Xihai delivered the closing speech. He noted that the forum was a success, and had reached a consensus on many issues about the strategy of cooperation in running school. In the end, Li Haijun, the president of Sias, declared the “Education Development Forum on Sino-Foreign Cooperation in Running School & 11th AUAP Learning and Sharing Forum” successfully concluded.
During the forum Sias also arranged for the participants and foreign guests to enjoy a symphony concert and a special students performance, showing a combination of Chinese and Western culture. Chinese and foreign guests attending the forum spoke highly of us. The Rotating Chairman of AUAP Dr. Carmen Z. Lamagna, the secretary-general Dr. Ruben Umaly and the chairman of Fort Hays Higher Education Committee Richard Hedges all praised Sias for organizing it very well so that the guests could feel the warmth of home. Degree and Graduate Education Development Center Director Lin Mengquan and other Chinese leaders and guests said this forum provided a communication platform for them, and they learned from each other when sharing the running-school philosophy and development experience. The forum also played an inestimable role in Sino-Foreign cooperation in running school in Henan province and throughout in China.
In the two-day forum, all participants gave their perspectives of Sino-Foreign cooperation in running school, which could have a far-reaching impact on the exchange and development of higher education in China. Drawing on the successful experience of other joint institutions, and based on our own advantages, exploration and innovation, Sias will take this opportunity to make a difference in its second decade.（By ICED）
Sias signed MOU with Azerbaijan Nakhchivan State University [2010-06-07]
May 27th, accompanied by Prof. Fang Wenchang, Dr. Shawn Chen met with Isa Habibbayli, rector of Azerbaijan Nakhchivan State University.
In the meeting, an introduction to Sias history, features and prospect was given by Dr. Shawn Chen. Upon hearing the introduction, the Azerbaijan guest marveled at the achievements Sias had achieved during such a short period, and said that it’s a miracle that it only took Sias 12 years to be a comprehensive university.
Later, Dr. Shawn Chen and Isa Habibbayli signed the MOU with each other. Azerbaijan Nakhchivan State University became the first Mid-Asia school who cooperate with Sias International University. (By ICED)
