Name of Project: Discovery Camp 2023 in Sias University, China

Organizer: Sias University

Date: July 3 -July 10, 2023

Venue: Sias University, China

Theme: Experience Amazing China

Objectives:

  • To fulfill UMAP's mission of enhancing international understanding by boosting student mobility among UMAP member countries/territories.

  • To provide students with an opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the culture, history, and economy of China.

  • To enhance global citizen awareness for the participating students.

Participants:

  • 35 international students (from UMAP Full Member Countries/Territories)

  • 5 local students

Application Requirement and Qualifications:

  • Must be a student registering at UMAP’s pledged universities/colleges in full member countries/territories.

  • Be 18 years of age or older.

  • Must possess a good command of English Language, with one of the following proficiency scores:

IELTS: overall score of 5.0

TOEFL: overall score of 61 iBT or other English Proficiency Test which is equivalent to the test mentioned above

  • Must submit application materials which will be announced on the UMAP website.

  • Be physically fit to travel and able to engage in all activities such as walking and simple hiking.

  • Must obtain a permit to enter China as stated in the following website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, http://cs.mfa.gov.cn/wgrlh/lhqz/lhqzjjs/ if required.

  • Certificates: Students who complete the program will receive a certificate of participation from Sias University and 3 UCTS

Fees:

  • Sias University will cover the cost of tuition, field trips, local transportation, accommodation, and meals during the camp.

  • Participants are responsible for own expenses for travel to and from Zhengzhou, China, medical insurance, visa, and other personal expenses.

Important Dates:

  • Deadline of Application submission: April 14, 2023 (through home universities of each country/territory).

  • Announcement of Accepted Applicants: May 15, 2023.

Application Procedure:

1. Each pledged institution may nominate up 2 students.

2. China National Secretariat will notify the applicants to submit the application materials.

3. China National Secretariat will announce the list of successful applicants.

4. Successful applicants prepare their travels to China.

Sias University was founded in 1998, and is the first solely American-owned University in Central China. It was developed and designed in response to the most current educational demands. It is the first full-time undergraduate university approved by the Degree Committee of the State Council in China to grant both Chinese and American Bachelor's Degrees. Sias currently has 7 Chinese -Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools programs and 1 institute approved by the Ministry of Education: one dual program with The University of Arizona from Arizona, USA and six dual degree programs with Fort Hays State University from Kansas, USA . It also has 5 graduate programs. The 8 fields of study offering degrees include liberal arts, science, engineering, economics, management, medicine, law, education and the performing arts.

As an international university, Sias enjoys partnerships with 200+ international partner schools from 50+ countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada, India, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia and so forth.
